Wasp and Hornets
Wasp stings can be painful and irritating, but they usually aren’t dangerous. If you are allergic to wasp venom, or if you have certain health conditions such as a heart condition, then you should take more care. More than 100 people die from reactions to hornet stings each year in the US alone. The same venom may have a different effect on different people. It is therefore important to know how to deal with these stings, should you encounter one.
Wasps are social insects that live in colonies. These insect communities can contain as many as 60,000 individuals and be made up of several castes, including workers (that hunt and care for the young), queens (that lay eggs), and soldiers who defend the colony from harm. During their evolution, wasps have developed sophisticated societies organized around cooperation and division of labor that even humans sometimes use as models to solve ecological challenges.
